Out with the done and drab and in with the bright and breezy – spring is the perfect season to give your interior a little makeover. Want to know the best part of a spring spruce-up? You don’t have to dip into your rainy day savings! There are so many simple and effective differences you can make to give your decor a face lift on a budget.

Move things around
The most cost effective way to redecorate your home is to simply reposition your furniture. It’s very easy to get used to having things a certain way, but you may be surprised at how a little rearranging can bring a whole new feel into your home. If you don’t want to make any major changes, start small by moving around your artwork or smaller items like lamps and chairs.

Clear out the clutter
Spring is synonymous with clean-outs. Embrace the spring-clean tradition by getting rid of the items you no longer need or want. A clean and clutter-free space will provide you with an environment that promotes relaxation, calmness and productivity.

Paint
A fresh coat of paint is one of the most effective ways to change the look and feel of a room. If you provide the labour, painting is also pretty cheap. Fresh, neutral colours are great for spring and they will maximise your market potential.

The power of fresh flowers
Fresh flowers not only add visual appeal and a sweet fragrance, but having a little bit of nature in your home will instantly lift the energy of your space. Giving your home the gift of beautiful fresh flowers is a real treat.

Investment areas
If you’re willing to spend a little more on big budget areas, such as the bathroom or kitchen, it’s wise to do some research into styles and designs that are conducive with upcoming trends. But if the major appliances and structure are good, you may be able to get away with giving the areas a basic freshen up. Perhaps new tiling and new taps and accessories? These simple changes might be enough to give a new lease of life and add value rather than needing a full renovation.

Let there be light
Winter may demand warm and cosy interiors, but spring is all about being bright and airy. Pull back heavy curtains and open windows and doors to let natural light shine through your home. Strategically place lights and lamps to brighten up the dark areas of rooms.

Just add colour
A cheap and easy way to change the look of your space is by adding different colours. If you don’t want anything too overpowering, layer colourful cushions, throws, lamps and rugs over a neutral base. For example, start wit
h a white or beige couch and add turquoise cushions.
