The Mooloolah Valley is something of a hidden gem on the Sunshine Coast and while it has been partially unearthed in the past two decades, it certainly hasn’t lost any of its sparkle.
From the pretty little streams and swimming holes of Diamond Valley to the green fields surrounding Mooloolah township, it is a “Sunday Drive” type of place, where the journey is as pleasant as the destination.
Although called a valley, the district includes the slopes to the top Blackall Range and Bald Knob, the aptly named landmark peak at the top of the Landsborough-Maleny Road.
A rail town popular among commuters, Mooloolah is 18kms from Caloundra’s beaches by a direct route that, at about the halfway point, crosses the M1. It is a quick 7kms to Landsborough down the old Bruce Highway and a scenic 5km rainforest drive north to Eudlo.
It has a school, a good range of shops to service the local population and a terrific park and playground just a saunter from the railway station. The area’s real appeal is its diversity, from rainforest to paddocks, valleys to slopes.
The statistical district covers 5913ha and has a population density of 0.61 per ha.
Summing up: Relinquishing the title of being a one-horse town about 20 years ago, Mooloolah has become a trendy little spot to live. It is central for beach and Brisbane commuters while offering a taste of country life from a choice of residential estates and small and large acreage. It’s the place to own a pony.
